Times are tough, Virginia. We've seen unemployment rise and we've seen transportation become increasingly difficult. Many people are waiting for new jobs to enter the state. Many Virginians are waiting for a new economy to emerge. Many of those people have been left waiting under the Governorship of Tim Kaine. The jobs have not come in. The economy has not grown. Transportation has gotten worse. It's time for new leadership. It's time for a new voice. It's time for someone who truly understands Virginia and knows how to make it better. Fellow Virginians, that person is Attorney General Bob McDonnell.
Bob McDonnell is the Governor we need. Bob McDonnell is the person we can trust. It's time Virginia saw some real leadership, backed by experience and common sense ideas that will propel Virginia into growth and prosperity. Bob McDonnell can do that. Since taking office in 2006 as Attorney General, McDonnell has seen 85 of his 94 legislative proposals pass the General Assembly and be signed into law. He has been commended for his work to strengthen Virginia's mental health laws, crack down on animal fighting, establish a "Senior Alert" to assist in locating missing seniors with mental deficiencies, create a state of the art Sex Offender Registry, and provide new tools for law enforcement involved in online investigations of identity theft, sexual predators, and other 21st Century criminals. The Attorney General created and led Virginia's Youth Internet Safety Task Force, which received widespread attention for its significant recommendations to improve online safety, and established the ongoing Attorney General's Task Force on Regulatory and Government Reform. The task force has already made 186 individual recommendations to streamline Virginia's Administrative Code, and reduce burdensome government regulation.
Prior to his election as Attorney General, McDonnell represented the 84th District, Virginia Beach, in the Virginia House of Delegates for 14 years. In the House of Delegates, McDonnell served as the Assistant Majority Leader and as Chairman of the House Courts of Justice Committee. He was Chief Patron of numerous bills during his career, including Governor Allen's Juvenile Justice Reform Initiative, Virginia's historic Welfare Reform legislation, laws to reform drunk driving laws and crack down on sex predators and gangs, legislation to abolish the death tax, and legislation to rewrite and improve Virginia's Public Private Partnership Transportation Act. He also authored legislation and secured funding for the creation of Virginia's Judicial Performance Evaluation Program to guide the General Assembly in reappointing judges.
Leaders from across the country, including Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, have praised McDonnell for his strong work on reform and economic growth. The Washington Post recently listed McDonnell in the top 5 for most prominent Republicans in the country. But this election next year will be about far more than Republican or Democrat. It will be about who can get the job done and who understands what's at stake in Virginia. That person is Bob McDonnell.
Not only does Bob McDonnell understand Virginia's principles and environment, but he understands the youth of Virginia, as well. McDonnell, a father of 5, has worked hard to crack down on sexual predators on the street, as well as on the internet. He also understands the hardships of college tuitions and the post-graduation job search. On top of that, he honestly cares about what young people are thinking and what they are concerned about.
As the President of College Republicans at VCU, I whole-heartedly endorse Bob McDonnell for Governor of Virginia. He is a leader we know and trust. I have no doubt that he will bring reform, growth and prosperity to Virginia. I ask that you join me in supporting Bob McDonnell for Governor.
Lee Vogler
President, College Republicans at VCU
